Boulder

Contact instructors: Boulder section in contacts.

The gym also has a small bouldering wall. If you would like to try it, contact the instructors for an introduction and advice on preventing injuries. The same access requirements apply as for the rest of Pod-O-Gym, including reading the operating rules.

Our climbing instructors take care of the bouldering area. You can find their contact details in Contacts. If you have any problems or questions, please write to sportoviste@pod.cvut.cz.

The bouldering area has two parts: classic boulders and the spray wall.

Classic boulders

  • One colour indicates a boulder
  • Two tapes indicate the starting hold (both hands on one hold) or two holds (each hand on one hold)
  • One tape indicates the end of the boulder – the so-called TOP
  • Start on the marked hold or holds. You may use the next holds once your whole body is off the ground. A boulder is complete when you follow one colour to the top hold and control it with both hands for about three seconds

Spray Wall

  • An ideal part of the boulder where you can show your creativity, come up with your own boulders, and share them with other climbers in the mobile app
  • The rules of bouldering in this section are the same
  • To view the boulders, download the Boulder Creator app (black and red) and search for the PodoGym room
What can you do with the Boulder Creator app?
  • Browse, climb, check off, and rate the classification of boulders already climbed by other climbers
  • Create and publish your own boulders so that other climbers can try them
Creating boulders
  • Take a photo of the wall and circle the holds that are part of your boulder in the app (each type of circle indicates something different – start, top, feet, hands, etc.)
  • Add a name, difficulty, and optional characteristics of the boulder
  • Publish and see who climbs your boulder
Climbing
  • Record which boulders you have completed and how many attempts each took

Difficulty

  • We will use the French scale
  • Difficulty 1–9, a–c (we will probably range between 3 and 7)
  • In short:
    • 3 < 4 < 5 < 6…
    • a < b < c
    • Therefore: 5a < 5b < 5c < 6a < 6b…
    • A + may appear between grades: 5a < 5a+ < 5b
  • In the Boulder Creator app
    • Grades start at 4, 5, and 5+, then continue like the French scale (5+ corresponds approximately to 5b–5c+)

Regular and occasional courses

The selection of free courses changes each semester. They are led by volunteers from among the club’s members.

One occasional course, “How to Train”, is usually held at the beginning of the academic year. It is intended for people who are unsure how to get started or are looking for a training partner.
